A few months ago, I decided to challenge myself. I was having daily devotions and had the question on my mind, “what more can I do?” That question quickly grew into a hunger for more of God’s Word, so I decided to challenge myself to memorize a verse a day. What better way to grow closer to our Lord and be more like Him than to meditate on His Word daily. Having a verse to devote to memory throughout the day truly does make a difference.
How do I choose which one to memorize? I usually find one that I love highlighted in one of the books I’m reading, or I choose one from the passage of Scripture I’m reading that day. I keep a journal of what I’m reading (this journal is starting to look pretty rough and falling apart with multi colored sticky tabs throughout it…it’s a sight haha). After I’ve taken notes on what I read that day, I write my memory verse down, highlight it, then mark it with a sticky tab. For some reason, I memorize things better if I see them in my own writing. I then take a photo of the verse in my journal on my phone and save it to an album I have titled “Verses.” That way, I can glance at it throughout the day.
Memorizing verses has been a constant reminder to me throughout the day that God is in control, the happenings of our days rest in His hands. His word directs our paths (Psalm 119:105), and keeps us sure footed. There are times throughout the day when I’m feeling stressed, and just quoting a verse makes it so much better and takes away that feeling of hopelessness. God’s Word will always shed a light on our situations. Memorizing verses helps us learn a walk of faith so that we may trust Him for each next step to take.
Here are a few of my favorite verses:
I know I’ve stated this before, but I truly believe God gives us just enough light for the step we are on so that we will continue to trust Him for the next step that follows. I can’t tell you the perfect timing of the verses I’ve been memorizing and how choosing them on the day that I did couldn’t have been a more perfect day. God’s timing is perfect. Lastly, it is so easy to just read the Bible (simply as a Biblical story) and not relate it to our lives today. There are many times when I get caught on a verse and say “how is this relevant to my life today?” But it is! Every time I get stuck on that question, I recite:
Romans 15:4
For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we for the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.
So, choose a verse a day, commit it to memory, and see how it works on your life! 🙂

Hopefully this doesn't post a bunch of times. It has erased on me twice now. I just wanted to encourage you and let you know how wonderful I think it is to see you developing a love for the word of God! There is nothing that has been more beneficial to me then to commit the words of encouragement, instruction and correction to memory. I did want make a suggestion for your busy days ahead, try memorizing chapter at a time. This may sound like a lot, but it has really helped me stay on track. I started this when I was having trouble keeping up with all the verses for my children and myself. We started choosing a chapter and memorizing 2-4 verses a week until we finish the chapter. This helps us review old verses and know what to do next more easily. It also helps get back on track if we fail to memorize for a little bit, we know where to go back to. 1 Corinthians 13 and Psalms 1 are great ones to start with. Hope this helps! 😊
Thanks so much for your comment, Charity! It means a lot to me 🙂 Thank you also for your suggestion! I agree, that is a great way to stay on track!! Thanks again!
Thanks for a great post!
You are an inspiration as well as a strong witness to many ladies! Thank you for posting!
