A Preppy State of Mind, along with many others, is mourning the death today of a true inspiration, Lilly Pulitzer. She surly changed the fashion world and taught us how to add color to our closets and lives. The queen of pink and green will remain in our hearts as the one who teaches us that “Life is a party. Dress like it.”
Lilly was not only an inspiration to us. She has also inspired so many other great designers. With her colorful mindset and cheery patterns that truly help us enjoy life, others followed her trend to design. For instance, my second favorite designer, Kate Spade, was one who felt inspired by Lilly Pulitzer. I love Kate Spade’s words on Lilly: “Lilly Pulitzer was one of the first to take a personal look and lifestyle and turn it a brand. Her cheery and colorful prints are much imitated, but she is a true and original.” I truly believe that Lilly Pulitzer is how we learn to “Live Colorfully”, as Kate Spade says.
Lastly, Lilly Pulitzer was a huge inspiration on me personally. Wearing Lilly since a little girl, I feel like it has always been a part of me and my Mama. Whenever I know that my outfit is what is going to get me through the day, Lilly Pulitzer is always my go-to. Lilly Pulitzer was the inspiration in my starting A Preppy State of Mind, which has been one of the best things to ever happen to me. The top person on my “Famous People to Meet List” was Lilly Pulitzer. I’m so sad that I will never get to meet her and tell her thank you for how she has truly changed my life, but her inspiring me in so many ways and teaching us to dress for the party of life has been more than enough.
Thank you, Lilly, for the colorful inspiration you were and will always be. Everyone wear Lilly in honor of her today!
Oh so sad.
Was unaware of this until I read your posting.
Thank you for the notice.
She will live on in the inspiration of her clothing and accessories.
I was so sad when I saw this news online today. 🙁 This was a beautiful post though- Lilly is truly an inspiration!

So sad and this is SUCH a beautiful post to her. I only have a few Lilly things, no clothing from her yet, but I love her signature prints and style that she gave to the fashion world. She will surely be missed!

Great post on the late great Lilly Pulitzer! I will be wearing something Lilly all week in her memory, but not like that is difficult to do! I also love Kate Spade's words on Lilly! She too, is my second favorite designer (tied with Tory Burch).
