In The Moment

A reoccurring theme that I’ve been noticing in my Bible studies lately is the idea of living in the moment. Living in the moment, not harping on the past, and trying not to look too far ahead. I struggle with this and catch myself all the time worrying too far into the future. I so many times have to stop and just say “Hold up, Rachel! Why are you stressing about things way down the road when you’re not suppose to even worry about tomorrow (Matthew 6:34)?!”Again, easier said than done, I know! But I have learned that I can create so many make-believe problems in my head by worrying about things in the future instead of focusing on the now. And what’s worse is when I waste time worrying about what’s ahead that I miss out on the wonderful things right in front of my eyes.
I’ve said this in many of posts before, but I so believe that God sets stepping stones out before us to guide us with just enough light for the step we’re on. And I believe that He does this through some of the simplest things we could ever imagine. I love to read to Madeline. I read to her every night after her last feeding before laying her down to sleep. She has a huge bin of books, and one of them is a book called Blessings Everywhere. We read it just the other night. It’s the cutest little book that seriously was such a great reminder for me to read because it kind of clicked with me and this whole idea of not stressing about the future but enjoying the now. Why? Because there are blessings everywhere 🙂
I’ve been doing this a lot over the past few days (especially since I’ve had the opportunity to spend a few days at the beach). But it really sets a happy feeling inside and strengthens my heart. When I’ve started to stress, I stop and think about the many many blessings all around. They always always always outweigh whatever is on my mind. I simply count my blessings. A line that has always stuck in my mind from Just Enough Light: “Because we walk in the light of the Lord, blessings abound for us in each moment.” So, so true.  I become so very happy when I just stop and look at God’s blessings right here, right now.
“I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord…”
~ Psalm 27:13 ~
“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus.”
~ Philippians 4:19 ~
What are some way you remind yourself to live in the moment?
Delightfully Yours,

  1. Rachel, as a teacher I am so happy and impressed that you are reading to your child each day. You are obviously doing all of the right things for such a young parent. One of my blessings is reading your beautiful blog each week with such touching words!
