Our Trip To Charleston

Rainbow Row Charleston, SC
Hello, Y’all! Happy Friday 🙂 We’ve made it to the weekend! As promised, today I’m sharing a little bit about the recent trip to Charleston that I took with my Mama and Madeline. Goodness I absolutely could not get enough of this place! The gorgeous pastels, quaint scenery, delicious food and so much more just drew me in and had me never wanting to leave. It had been a while since my previous trip to Charleston, so this one kind of refreshed my memory on why I love it so much, and needless to say, I’m ready to go back anytime 🙂 But first off, I’ll share some iPhone pictures that I snapped and some Instagram shots from our trip. And for those interested, all outfit details will be listed underneath the photo.

Okay now on to all of the details:
Where We Stayed

During this trip to Charleston, we stayed at The Mills House. I couldn’t begin to say enough good things about this place! First off…the architecture!!! The gorgeous pink stucco (I mean seriously, I’d choose the pink hotel any day!), with the white trim, the black doors, and the gorgeous patio! It is seriously the ultimate southern charm. I just could’t get enough! The lobby was also breathtaking. White marble, orange accents, crystal chandeliers, a gorgeous staircase in the front…so elegant. I know this isn’t that big of a deal, but the lobby also smells amazing! When you walk in, it hits you and you’re like “what on earth is this amazing smell?” We asked and they said that the Yankee Candle scent “Crisp Morning Air” is actually piped into the lobby so that it always smelt amazing.
The room was perfect as well. It was light and airy with light blue and white…perfectly Charleston. We booked a Junior Suite, so it was nice and spacious. It allowed for plenty of room for Madeline to run around and play. There was also a great view of the quaint streets, and even one of my two favorite restaurants, Poogan’s Porch! Since it’s suppose to be haunted, we were able to look across the street at night and watch for ghosts (haha, just kidding) 🙂 But I couldn’t say enough positive things about our experience at The Mills House! I’m ready to go back anytime! P.S. This post is in no way sponsored, and as always, I give my 100% honest opinion.
Where We Ate

We ate at a several AMAZING restaurants during our visit to Charleston. Seriously, I didn’t have a bad meal the entire time there. I didn’t eat healthy at all haha, but I was on vacation so I didn’t pay too much attention to that. Totally acceptable, right? 🙂
The first night we ate at Poogan’s Porch. This quaint little restaurant is in an old victorian home and is so fun to visit. It is named after a pup, Poogan. It is said that the “porch was his” and he served as “the official greeter” of the house. Another fun fact is that the restaurant also is suppose to be haunted! I also love “What they believe in” (read about it here on their site). I absolutely loved the atmosphere. I had the best fried chicken that I’ve ever had. It was sitting on a bed of mashed potatoes with gravy and collard greens. They also bring out the best biscuits ever!!! Madeline loved them. We love Poogan’s Porch so much and we actually went back there a second time for lunch during our visit.
We also at lunch at Jestine’s Kitchen! It was also delicious and the perfect spot for lunch. I loved the atmosphere, and Madeline loved the fact that we were right across the street from the fire trucks (read more about this below).
My absolute favorite restaurant of all is Blossom! Here I had the best friend shrimp and the absolute best collards I’ve ever had! It was funny because we were asking the waiter what made them so delicious and he told us that there was accidentally an extra amount of sugar added to them that night haha. I also got the roasted beet salad which was delicious! I have to also mention the dessert I got here, the strawberry rhubarb oatmeal crisp…absolutely amazing!!!
The other restaurant that we ate at for dinner was Slightly North of Broad. My Mama and I both agree that the shrimp and grits are without a doubt the best we’ve ever had! I’m not usually a shrimp and grits fan, but these I loved. We also got the local strawberry salad which was amazing and so refreshing.
Like I said, we didn’t have a “bad” meal the entire time in Charleston. The food is absolutely amazing. One word of advice if you’re going to visit, be sure to make reservations for wherever you plan to eat, especially on the weekends. We were there through Friday, and the crowd definitely picked up then. And for all you parents, it also seemed like everywhere had such a great kid’s menu as well. My toddler is a very picky eater, but I will say that she definitely enjoyed the food as well. Each of these restaurants I mentioned had great options for kids.
What We Did

What did we do in Charleston? We walked, and walked and walked. But it was so much fun! Our Fitbits were definitely pleased with us the days we were here haha. But walking is absolutely so fun here and my favorite thing to do because everywhere is so gorgeous! It’s especially fun to walk down Rainbow Row and the Battery, but what I love even more is exploring the quaint side streets and seeing the gorgeous architecture Charleston has to offer. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect for our trip (sunny and temps in the mid 70s) so it was perfect for walking. Madeline also enjoyed the sights, especially the horses. P.S. If you plan to do a lot of walking, be sure to wear comfortable shoes  (or bring an extra pair to change into if your feet start to get sore) because the streets aren’t the easiest to walk on. I brought along my Miller Sandals in the stroller to change into, if needed.
King’s Street is also a must. The shopping is great, all while enjoying the amazing scenery. There’s a J.Crew, Lilly Pulitzer signature shop, Anthro, Kate Spade, Louis Vuitton, several adorable children’s boutiques, a HUGE Forever 21 and so much more. It’s so much fun to shop here. There’s also an amazing art shop that we checked out. And it’s also a much to grab some pralines from River Street Sweets…absolutely amazing!
We also walked through the market some, but I couldn’t handle that with a stroller. It was soooo crowded and hot in there that I didn’t want to spend too much time there. I was honestly happy that we stayed away from the crowd there because it just wasn’t worth it to me and maneuvering a stroller through there.
The last thing I want to mention which has nothing to do with Charleston but was Madeline’s favorite was the fire house. We walked past here a few times and ended up paying it three visits within a 24 hour period haha. Madeline absolutely loved fire trucks! She was thrilled to see one that close. It’s funny because we were there within three different shifts, so each time, a different fireman saw us and let her come in to visit the fire truck and “drive” it. She was absolutely thrilled! They even gave her a “fire badge” for herself 🙂 So, a huge thank you to the kind firemen who made Madeline’s trip by letting her explore the fire trucks.
Well that’s about it for our trip! We had such an amazing time! There’s nothing I love more than going on fun little trips with my two best friends…Mama and Madeline. Such special memories made with those two as I absolutely love our little adventures.
I hope y’all enjoyed this and found this helpful it you’re looking to visit Charleston. I’d also love to hear some of y’alls recommendations! Be sure to leave them in the comments below or shoot me an email 🙂
Have a great weekend!
