Happy Friday, Friends! Today I wanted to share a little bit about our recent trip to Highlands, NC. It is something that we look forward to every year. For the past three years, we have visited around this time, and it has been nothing short of amazing! Each year, I leave just hoping to be back again next year. I feel like it is always one of those vacations that I leave being sad that it’s over but smiling because it happened 🙂
The weather was amazing! We have had such a warm fall, so it was nice to finally experience some cooler temps. It didn’t even get up to 60 during the daytime and it was in the 30s at night. This particular day, it didn’t even get above 40, so I was glad that we had our hats. We snapped these pictures on the way down the mountain to head home and could not help but stop at the scenic overlook. Words could not describe how gorgeous everything was! There was yellow, red and orange all around us. Seeing the stunning fall leaves, the blue sky and the mountains, it was at that moment where all you can think about is the amazing Creator we serve…how majestic our Lord is. One of my favorite song lyrics comes to mind, “Oh Lord, Our Lord, how majestic is Thy name. Mountains, valleys, all creation tells Thy fame.“
Anyways, I thought I would share a little about our favorites in Highlands, NC. We have a favorite place that we stay year after year. I’ve mentioned it on here before, but it is The Park on Main hotel. It is probably the most adorable hotel I’ve ever stayed at. It’s so pet friendly…Jaycee always feels right at home. I absolutely love that and love how pet friendly Highlands is overall. Just about every store we went in while there welcomed her in and made such a fuss over her haha. There are pups walking around the streets everywhere you look. Madeline loves dogs (and animals in general) so much, so she always has a blast staying at the Park on Main as well. The rooms are very large, and everything is so white and clean looking. They cater to your pet like no other (even have a bed and a MacKenzie-Child’s bowl waiting for your pet!). They also have a privately owned doggie park for their guests. I couldn’t recommend this hotel enough! Every year around Halloween, they have a costume contest, which we always look forward to participating in. We love staying here year after year.
As for what we did, I know there are a lot of amazing things to do it you’re the outdoorsy type. But I’m more into walking around the town and enjoying all the sights and shopping. I love the little town area that has some of the cutest shops! My favorite thing of all that we did was simply driving around. The leaves were so gorgeous, so the views were especially amazing. We also drove to a few places, like Bridal Veil Falls. Madeline loved seeing that and walking behind the waterfall.
We also ate at a few places I thought I’d mention. For lunch, my favorite place is the Mountain Fresh Grocery. It’s on the main street, so it’s easy to walk to. They have just about everything imaginable to eat from pizza, gelato and cafe favorites. I tried a few things, like the chicken pot pie. We ate there everyday for lunch, and I got something different each time. Everything is so good there! Another restaurant that I love (and is probably my favorite), is Wolfgang’s. It is also located on the main street. I got the cajun bar-b-que shrimp and it was incredible!! I love the atmosphere as well. I don’t think you could go wrong with anything from Wolfgang’s. Another restaurant that we ate at for the second time was The Log Cabin. I did like it, however, it’s not as good as Wolfgang’s. I do love the atmosphere at the Log Cabin, though. Overall, I would definitely recommend it. Another restaurant that we plan to try next time is On the Verandah! It has amazing reviews. If you plan to try any of these (except for the grocery, of course), be sure to make reservations beforehand.
If you’re planning a trip to Highlands, I hope these tips are helpful! Or if you love to go, I’d love to hear some of your recommendations as well 🙂
I hope y’all have a great weekend!
Delightfully Yours,
